A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A COMMERCIAL BANKING OFFICER
A Commercial Banking Officer is responsible for managing a book of commercial banking customers. The CBO examines, evaluates, and authorizes or recommends approval of commercial loan requests. The CBO is a team player within the Bank, is customer oriented, and has an interest in promoting the Bank and its products. The CBO must maintain a thorough knowledge of all commercial loan products available as well as other banking services which would include, but not be limited to, consumer loans, real estate loans, depository and cash management products.
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Originate, underwrite and close commercial loans for existing and new clients of the Bank in adherence to the WoodTrust Bank loan policy.
- Maintain credit quality of portfolio by reviewing customer performance on a continual basis with follow-up on financial statement reporting to the Bank.
- Foster new business development and business retention to promote portfolio growth while maintaining high credit quality.
- Ability to make credit decisions based on analytical credit underwriting procedures accentuated by ongoing education including seminars and informational reading.
- Monitor and enforce collection activities on past-due loans and develop workout plans for troubled credit.
- Work with other professionals necessary to evaluate and document loan transactions. This would include attorneys, accountants and appraisers.
- Display good negotiation skills and business judgment.
- Maintain an active presence in the community by attending social events, volunteer for local non-profit organizations and participate in other community focused activities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Attention to detail, a high degree of accuracy and the ability to multi-task are essential to this position as well as well as a solid understanding of math concepts, good written communication skills and a desire to solve problems. Proficient computer skills are necessary.
The position requires skills and sales techniques as well as sound judgment in lending decisions. The CBO will deal effectively with the public in both positive and negative situations that may arise. It is important for the individual to represent the Bank by maintaining a positive community image, by being involved in community activities and organizations.
The person in this position must enjoy people and be willing and eager to interact pleasantly with customers and fellow associates alike. They must understand the team concept and be able to function as a member of a team as this team works towards a common goal.
It is essential to observe the strictest secrecy and confidentiality on the subject of accounts and activities of any kind of dealing with the bank and maintain a high level of enthusiasm and customer awareness while conveying our confidence in the Bank and the services that are offered.
